Being John
Stockley
Multidisciplinary creative based in Brighton. I work across graphic design, video, live events, music, and immersive theatre — sometimes all at once.
Who I am
I’m a multidisciplinary creative with a background in Music & Visual Arts (Brighton University) and over a decade of experience working across the arts, events, and creative industries. I grew up in Skelmersdale and have been based in Brighton since — running venues, organising events, making music, designing things, and generally refusing to specialise.
I founded Keep Brighton Weird (36k members), have been part of Boomtown Fair and Balter Festival as actor and crew since 2015, and spent four years managing the Rialto Theatre as venue manager. I’ve been on TV a few times through Ugly Models, organised Trans Pride Brighton, and coordinated leaflet campaigns for the Green Party.
On the creative side I produce hard and fast rave music as Jeremy Jumbles, make instrumental post-rock/synthwave as The Spell Is Broken, do live visuals using Resolume, and make found object art. I also built an analogue audio visualiser from a VGA testing unit and a CRT, because of course I did.
What I do professionally
My freelance work sits across a few areas that tend to bleed into each other:
- Graphic design — book covers (7 published, starting at £700), branding, print, social assets
- Video editing — Premiere Pro and After Effects, from music videos to event content
- Social media management — strategy, content creation, scheduling, community management
- Live streaming — OBS, multi-source setups, event broadcasts
- Live visuals — Resolume, real-time VJ sets for events and performances
- Event & venue management — full production, bar ops, crew coordination, immersive theatre
